A free jobs, skills and apprenticeship fair will be held at MyPlace in Harold Hill on Thursday 15 October, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

Entry is free and nobody needs to register in advance. Employers and training providers will have stands, with information on jobs, apprenticeships and training courses.

The fair was announced on 7 September by Julia Lopez, MP for Hornchurch and Upminster. She runs it with Romford Jobcentre Plus. The list of organisations taking part has not been published yet; her announcement says it will follow.

The address is the one the council uses for the building in its own decision records. MyPlace is the council’s youth and community centre.

What earlier fairs led to

These fairs have run for several years, usually in February and September. This will be the second at MyPlace this year. The February fair, the 13th in the series, was held there on 5 February; the MP’s office reported more than 350 attendees.

The fullest published results are for the September 2025 fair at Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch, which drew nearly 300 people. Three weeks later, the MP’s office reported that:

  • 120 candidates were progressing with the local hospital trust, BHRUT, for Band 3 healthcare assistant roles
  • 30 candidates were invited to telephone interviews with The Wendy House Day Nursery
  • 19 attendees registered for Generation bootcamps
  • 13 signed up to sector-based work academy programmes with South Essex College

Those are figures reported by the organisers, not an independent count.

Past employer lists give a sense of who tends to attend. The February 2026 list included the British Army, the Metropolitan Police, TfL, Balfour Beatty (for roles on the Lower Thames Crossing project), Care Providers Voice and New City College. The October line-up may be different.

What it means for you

  • Just turn up. There is no ticket and no registration. The fair runs for three hours in the morning, so arriving early gives you the most time at the stands.
  • Bring a few copies of your CV. At the February 2024 fair, the organisers said 34 attendees got job offers on the day.
  • It is not only for jobseekers. The announcement is aimed at anyone looking for work, an apprenticeship, a career change or new skills.
  • Check back for the employer list. The organisers say it will be announced in due course, and earlier lists appeared on the MP’s news page. We will update this article when it appears.
