Sapphire Ice & Leisure in Romford has public skating every day: adults £11.50 to £12.50, juniors from £9.50, evening skates four nights. Christmas times TBC.

Romford does not need a pop-up rink at Christmas, because it has a full-sized one all year. Sapphire Ice & Leisure on Western Road, run by Everyone Active for Havering Council, holds public skating sessions every day of the week, with evening skates on four nights. Below are the times, prices and rules exactly as Everyone Active publishes them, and what is still to be announced for the Christmas holidays.

Public skating times

This is the standard weekly timetable from Everyone Active’s centre timetable, read on 20 October 2026. The operator says days and times are “subject to change”, so check the session on the booking page before you go (Everyone Active).

Day Morning Afternoon Late afternoon or evening
Monday 10am to 11.30am 2pm to 3.30pm none
Tuesday 10am to 11.30am 2pm to 3.30pm 7.45pm to 9.15pm
Wednesday 10am to 11.30am 2.30pm to 4pm none
Thursday 10am to 11.30am 2pm to 3.30pm 7.45pm to 9pm
Friday 10am to 11.30am 2pm to 3.30pm 4pm to 5.30pm

Sunday 10am to 11.30am 2pm to 3.30pm 8.30pm to 9.45pm

Everyone Active also warns that the rink “may be shared use” during public sessions. The Friday 4pm, Saturday 2.15pm and Sunday 2pm sessions are the ones its birthday parties run in, so expect groups of children on those.

Prices

Ticket Off-peak Peak
Adult £11.50 £12.50
Junior £9.50 £10.50
Senior £11.50 £12.50
Concession £11.50 £12.50
Adult and child session (under-5s) £11.25 £11.25

The timetable gives a peak and an off-peak rate but does not say which sessions count as peak, so the booking page shows the price for each session. Seniors and concessions pay the adult rate. Everyone Active says it has skates in a range of sizes, and skate aids can be hired for beginners. The centre is cashless, so bring a card.

Rules worth knowing before you go

  • Under-8s must be accompanied on the ice by a full-paying adult over 18. A parent cannot watch from the side with a child under eight.
  • Dress warmly in layers. Everyone Active suggests a jumper, hoodie, joggers or a jacket. For parties it also recommends thick socks, helmets or knee pads, and gloves.
  • The under-5s session on Tuesday mornings is 30 minutes long, takes up to 20 skaters, and has games and skate aids on the ice. The parent stays and supervises.
  • Patch ice, on Saturday and Sunday from 6.30am to 8.45am at £8.90, is for skaters who have reached Skate UK level 6 or are having a private lesson, not for beginners.

Christmas and New Year skating

Everyone Active had published no Christmas, New Year or school holiday skating times when we checked on 20 October 2026. Its timetable feed holds the standard week only, and nothing about Christmas sessions appears on the centre page. The Christmas holidays for Havering schools start after Friday 18 December; our term dates page has the details. We will update this page when holiday times appear.

There is no temporary Christmas rink in the borough this year as far as any organiser has said. Havering Council’s Christmas events calendar lists a craft fair, a dinner dance, an afternoon tea and a carol concert, and no rink (Havering Council). Mind in Havering’s Christmas Land in Harrow Lodge Park sells tickets for its lights walkway and grotto only; it is covered on our Christmas Land page.

Lessons, parties and ice hockey

  • Lessons are paid by monthly Direct Debit, priced on a 50-week year: £45.83 a month for children aged 5 to 15 and £50 a month for adults, plus a joining fee. Beginners’ junior classes (Level 1) run on Monday and Tuesday at 4pm and on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
  • Ice skating birthday parties cost £180, last an hour inside a public session with a dedicated steward, and include skate hire. They are recommended for ages 5 to 15, and food and leaders cost extra.
  • Ice hockey: the rink is home to the Raiders, who play in the National Ice Hockey League, and Everyone Active runs ice hockey lessons for 4 to 15 year olds.

All from the Everyone Active timetable for the centre, read on 20 October 2026 (Everyone Active).
