Mangal Meze on South Street, Romford, and Reina Meze Grill on Billet Lane, Hornchurch, are finalists. Public voting is open until 31 January 2027.

Two Havering restaurants are finalists in the 2027 British Kebab Awards.

They are among 283 businesses named across 22 categories, according to the awards’ finalists list, published on 21 October:

  • Mangal Meze, 100 South Street, Romford, is a finalist for Best Kebab Restaurant in South and East London.
  • Reina Meze Grill, 3-7 Billet Lane, Hornchurch, is a finalist for Customer Satisfaction.

The organisers say the finalists were chosen from almost 500 semi-finalists, after more than 6,000 nominations and over 40,000 public votes (press release, 21 October).

The winners will be named at a ceremony at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on Tuesday 23 February 2027.

How the finalists will be judged

The awards use a points system. Every finalist keeps the points it built up in the semi-final, the organisers say:

  • 2 points for each public vote
  • 250 points for each endorsement from an MP or councillor
  • 50 points per star of its Google rating, and per star of its TripAdvisor rating
  • 50 points for each point of its food hygiene rating

Public votes and endorsements keep counting until 11.59pm on 31 January. An independent panel of judges then meets from 1 to 3 February, using its own research, including mystery shopping. Each judge’s vote is worth 100 points.

Their hygiene ratings

Both restaurants score well on the Food Standards Agency’s register, which counts towards their totals:

Restaurant Rating Inspected
Mangal Meze, Romford 5 (very good) 18 May 2026
Reina Meze & Grill, Hornchurch 4 (good) 3 March 2026

Their neighbours in the running

Mangal Meze’s category has 13 finalists across south and east London and beyond. The nearest is Lara Grill on Whalebone Lane South, Dagenham, over the border in Barking and Dagenham.

Reina Meze Grill is one of 14 finalists for Customer Satisfaction, a national category. The only other London finalist in it is Iznik, in Highbury.

Havering has form in national food awards this autumn: Kaani Kaana in Upminster was named National Takeaway of the Year.
